Texas DPS-Approved Pepper Spray Certification Course

Equip yourself with the necessary skills and legal authority to carry a chemical dispensing device on duty.

Our Texas Pepper Spray Certification Course is an official, DPS-approved training program designed specifically for professional security personnel. Whether you are an armed or unarmed security officer, Texas Private Security Board regulations require this specialized certification to legally carry and deploy pepper spray.

🛡️ What You Will Learn

This comprehensive course covers all legal, tactical, and safety aspects of carrying a chemical dispensing device. Key topics include:

  • Texas Use-of-Force Laws: Understanding exactly when and how the law permits the use of chemical agents, and the defense to prosecution under Penal Code Section 46.05.
  • Civil Liability: Protecting yourself and your employer from legal risks associated with deploying pepper spray.
  • Tactical Deployment: Best practices for proper holding, aiming, and spraying techniques.
  • De-Escalation: Strategies to resolve conflicts before the use of force becomes necessary.
  • Post-Use Reporting: Proper procedures for decontamination, medical response, and incident documentation after deployment.

✅ Course Requirements & Eligibility

  • Level III Training Prerequisite: Because the safe and appropriate use of pepper spray requires a strong foundation in defensive tactics and use of force, this course is strictly approved only for students who have successfully completed Texas Level III Training. (Note: Non-commissioned officers may take this course, provided they have completed the Level III curriculum).
  • Professional Focus: This training is designed specifically for security professionals and is not intended for the general public.
  • Current Curriculum: Previously received training on older curriculums is no longer approved by the Private Security Board. You must complete this current curriculum to maintain your legal defense to carry.
